Introducing the Oatlands ‘Member Business Benefits Network’

A new way to connect, support and benefit from your fellow members.

What is the Oatlands Member Business Benefits Network?

The Oatlands Member Business Benefits Network is a new initiative that aims to foster a sense of community and mutual support among the members of Oatlands Golf Club who have a business they wish to introduce to the membership.

The idea is simple: if you have a business that offers a product or service that might be of interest to other members, you can register it with the Oatlands Business Network and offer a special discount or benefit for fellow members. In return, you will get exposure and recognition for your business, as well as the opportunity to network and build relationships with other members who share your passion for golf and entrepreneurship.

How does it work?

To join the Oatlands Business Network, you need to fill out a simple online template with some basic information about your business, such as the name, description, website, contact details, and the discount or benefit you are willing to offer to other members. You can access the form from the top menu of the Members Homepage as shown in the image below;

Once you submit the form, your business and offer will be reviewed and approved by the Membership & Operations Committee. The committee will ensure that your business meets the criteria and standards, such as being relevant, ethical, and professional, and also that a benefit is provided that is unique to Oatlands GC members.

After your business is approved, it will be listed on the Oatlands Business Network directory, which will be available on the Club website, Enews and Clubhouse noticeboards. The directory will include the name, description, website, contact details, and the discount or benefit of each business, as well as the name and photo of the member who owns or runs it.

Why should you join?

By joining the Oatlands Business Network, you will not only promote your business and increase your customer base, but also support your Club and fellow members and contribute to the Club’s community spirit. You will also benefit from:

  • Accessing a diverse and loyal market of potential customers who share your values and interests
  • Receiving feedback and referrals from other members who have used your products or services
  • Learning from the experiences and insights of other members who have similar or complementary businesses
  • Having fun and making new friends who can help you grow your business and enjoy your golf

How can you get started?

Fill out the online form as detailed above or contact the Club’s General Manager, Sam Howe, to discuss further (gm@oatlandsgolf.com.au).

The Members Business Benefits Network is being launched with an exclusive offer from cheaperwine.com.au of 10% saving on all orders of quality wines from the around the world.

From the Course

Rainfall for the Week: 19.0mm,  Rainfall for 2024: 902.5mm, Dam: 100%,  Green Speed: 9.5 feet

Having finished installing drainage lines on the 2nd and 3rd flyover areas last week, the focus for the team this week has been on the 16th fairway and right hand side rough line. Whilst this has been a relentless rain period, it has certainly shown how important drainage is when the soil profile of our course is clay based. The 3rd, 11th and green end of the 6th fairway have all been properly drained and this shows, as these fairway surfaces are handling this period without a problem. Drainage that the course staff and volunteers have installed in other areas such as the 4th fairway in front of the green, in front of the 6th tee, 12th, 14th, and 15th flyovers, has improved the accessibility of these areas in weather periods like we are experiencing.

The 16th fairway and rough is very wet, with the loss of 3 or 4 large trees either side of this fairway no doubt contributing to the issue as they would’ve been using up a large amount of available moisture in the ground. Water is running down the hill away from the 1st and 16th greens, and the 17th tee and accumulating across this fairway and rough line in the heavy soils. The course team has dug a mainline along the right hand side of the entire fairway this week, which is only the start of the works planned on this hole. Multiple laterals will be trenched across the fairway and out across the right rough line to capture excess water.

This work will take some time to complete as there are going to be many laterals to trench in and connect to the mainline. The laterals will be dug across the fairway to the left hand side rough so that any surface/sub-surface water on the fairway is collected, and the laterals in the right hand rough line will collect runoff water from the 17th tee that runs towards the screen fence behind the 13th green. Collecting excess water across this entire area will benefit the 2nd flyover and fairway as well, as it will be captured and drained away before it has a chance to seep across with gravity.

The 16th is the focus and once completed, we plan to install drainage across the top section of the 4th fairway, followed by the 13th fairway (50-100m out from the green), then the 8th fairway, and the 7th fairway. Nearly all holes require some form of drainage on them to enable better access during inclement weather periods. It will be a long process but once completed it will be very beneficial.

The course team is praying the fine weather towards the end of the week continues so that surfaces can dry out and all members can get back out and play the game they love.

Volunteers were on course Monday morning performing a bunker run before the competition, raked up the deciduous leaf’s around the 2nd and 14th tees, hand weeded Wintergrass weeds from the 1st collar, and performed more clubhouse maintenance tasks. Thank you gentlemen for your continued support and assistance.

Greens will be cut on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Happy Golfing!

The Course Team.

Captain’s Corner – Play from GUR when Preferred Lies are in Place

During this period of extended preferred lies, it is timely to advise members of their rights when their ball is in a GUR, (not compulsory GUR).

Options available when your ball is in a GUR when preferred lies are in place.

  1. You are permitted to clean your ball, and prefer your lie, within the GUR, within 30cm’s and not nearer the hole, and play the ball from the GUR
  2. You can clean your ball it and take full relief at the nearest point outside the GUR, not nearer the hole, and within one club length of that point. Full relief means that the ball, and your feet/stance must be completely outside the GUR. The white line is deemed to be part of the GUR
  3. If the nearest point of full relief is an area of abnormal course condition, eg temporary water, further relief from this abnormal course condition will be permitted without penalty, even though the full relief after allowing for the abnormal course condition is further away than the point of full relief from the GUR. For clarity, this means that when taking relief from GUR, you must first mark the point of full relief, not nearer the hole. If this point is impacted by an abnormal course condition further relief may be taken. When that point is identified, you must play the ball within one club length of that point.
  4. You are permitted to clean your ball which is in the GUR and prefer your lie, within 30 cm’s within the GUR, not nearer the hole. If after preferring your ball inside the GUR, it is possible that after taking the 30cm preferred lie there remains the option of taking an additional preferred lie outside the GUR as described in option 2 above, without further penalty.

Should preferred lies not be in place and your ball is in a GUR area you must either play the ball as it lies or take full relief at the nearest point not nearer the hole, and within one club length of that point, without penalty.

Regards,

Colin McRae
Club Captain
