Clubhouse Development – Next Steps
Following the General Meeting and approval by members to proceed with the proposed Clubhouse Development, many members have made enquires as to what happens next.
The first item from the Club’s perspective is the production of minutes from the General Meeting, and these will be published towards the middle of next week.
Following this, the Club will enter into the necessary documentation with Mirvac, and Mirvac will begin the process of preparing the Development Application for submission to Parramatta Council. This process is expected to take approximately 6 – 9 months.
In the meantime, the Club will be working on the aspects of the project required to facilitate the development with the minimum amount of disruption to members, including but not limited to:
- Design work and construction planning of the practice hole green and 19th hole
- Design work and construction planning of the Indoor Practice and Coaching facility
- Planning of temporary Clubhouse facilities
The planning of these items will run concurrently with the Development Application process, with milestone dates for commencing work subject to a range of factors.
It is the intention of the Board to keep members fully informed on every step of this project, however, the next major aspect of the project, in the short term, is the preparation and submission of the Development Application in line with the conditions of the Site Compatibility Certificate issued by the State Planning Authority, and as such will primarily be in the hands of Mirvac.
We look forward to providing further updates as the project evolves, starting with the publication of the General Meeting minutes next week.
Barbara Koch Charity Day a Great Success
Thursday 5th May, saw the Oatlands ladies host the annual Barbara Koch Charity Day, and what a great day it was! We had over 80 OGC ladies taking part, and the friendship and camaraderie, that is the cornerstone of this great Club, was as strong and evident as it has ever been.
The theme of the day was purple and pink (the colours of the charity) and our ladies didn’t disappoint, matching the days sunshine with their brightly coloured attire.
The money raised goes to ANZGOG, the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group, and this year our ladies raised $1,397.
Well done ladies!
From the Course
Rainfall for the Week: 12.5mm, Rainfall for 2022: 1,215.0mm (corrected) Dam: 100% Green Speed: 9.5 feet
The team has managed to install fabric linings, drainage, and sand in the front right hand side bunker on the 16th this week. The clay / shale base material in this bunker made for a messy and difficult job, especially trying to hammer in the steel pins through the shale, which became frustrating each time the pins would bend out of shape and not go in any further. Nevertheless, the team persisted and now the bunker should be ready for play in a matter of weeks, or when we feel the sand has consolidated enough for play.
The team has also started work in the right hand side bunker on the 11th, with all drainage lines cleaned up and edges squared up. An extra drainage line has been installed to collect water that was seeping down one of the faces of this bunker from an old drainage line. Weather permitting, the team will continue working in this bunker next week with the goal to have the fabric lining, drainage and sand installed by the end of the week.
A liquid fertiliser and pigment application to fairway surfaces was completed this week which will keep some natural colour in our fairways and provide some definition against our untreated rough lines.
Being back to working a full week this week as opposed to three short weeks in a row, all roughs have been mown which will help members when looking for their ball after an errant played shot. A full cut of rough also improves the overall appearance of the course. There are some really wet areas in the roughs, so the team has had to use whipper snippers or hand mowers to tidy these areas up.
Our volunteers were back on Monday with our usual numbers attending after a couple of weeks of public holidays falling on their Monday. This week, a bunker run was completed before the competition, practice nets were pressure cleaned and nets rotated to spread the wear, paths edged, nature strips mown and whipper snipped, and clubhouse maintenance. It was good to see everyone back with plenty of banter amongst everyone as well. Thank you for all your assistance again this week!
Have a good weekend,
The Course Team.

Pace of Play
Over the next month, we have a number of stroke events including trophy events on Saturday, and mid-week Championships, where speed of play becomes a major factor.
In the last couple of weeks with the course being open for play, the rough in many places remain long and in some places, the probability of a plugged ball is high.
In an effort to get the round of golf to no more than four hours and twenty minutes, it is strongly suggested that a provisional ball be played where the location of the initial ball is in doubt.
Observation also suggests that the three-minute time for locating a ball is not being observed, and it is the responsibility of the lowest marker in the group to ensure observance of the time rule is applied.
Did you know that in the top left hand corner of your Mi-Score app, it tells you that you are on time or behind time on each and every hole.
With the support of the Pro Shop, we will try and have Course Marshall’s on duty on these days to ensure times can be observed.
Please remember your position in the field is directly behind the group in front.
Recent Weather and Golf Carts
The recent wet weather and lack of wind is likely to see the golf course remain wet for some time.
This will necessitate ongoing golf cart restrictions to medical use only at best for some time.
Even with medical carts only in recent weeks, there have been many occasions when cart users are not following signage, rope and stake, or exercising common sense, which has resulted in a number of carts causing unnecessary damage and even getting bogged.
We are fortunate to be able to allow any cart usage at all, with many Clubs in Sydney still closed, not allowing cart access, and some even preventing pull buggies and requiring clubs to be carried only.
We are doing everything we can to provide the best access possible for our members, while balancing the health of the golf course as we head into winter. We ask all members, whether playing in carts or not, to please exercise extra caution around the course for the benefit of the turf surfaces and fellow members.
Thank you for your assistance.

Pennant Update
Men’s Major Pennant
We are excited to inform members that the Division 2 semi-final against Lakeside Golf Club has been scheduled for Sunday 15th May at Campbelltown Golf Club at 11:15am.
It would be great to get as many members as possible out to this match, as a victory will not only move us into the Division 2 final, but ensure us a place in Division 1 for 2023.
C’mon Oatlands!!!!
Interclub Challenge
The Oatlands Interclub team travelled to the Australian Golf Club for their first round match in the 2022 Interclub Challenge against Moore Park on Sunday 1st May.
The day started a bit rough with an early morning team change due to illness but we were still confident with the team we had.
Mark Robinson got us away to a flyer with a solid 3&2 victory. New team members Christian O’Reilly and Budd Frome performed admirably with a half and a 2&1 victory respectfully. Ian Priest also had another solid win to carry on his great form from last season. Peter Schleibs, who was a late call up (6am in the morning) fell agonisingly short of a half with his opponent making a miraculous par on the last to secure Moore Park the victory. Final result, Moore Park won 4.5 to 3.5.
Individual results were
- Nathan Wareham – Lost 4 & 3
- Luke Mason – Lost 7 & 5
- Ian Priest – Won 2 & 1
- Budd Frome – Won 2 & 1
- Peter Schliebs Lost 1 Down
- Christian O’Reilly Square
- Blair McDonald Lost 6 & 4
- Mark Robinson Won 3 & 2
Our next match is at home in two weeks against The Australian GC in a must win match.
