General Manager’s Note

Good afternoon Members,

Just a quick note relating to this week’s Enews. Due to the evolving Covid-19 situation relating to the Bondi cluster, and the subsequent action and communication required to keep the Club compliant and our members informed, this will be a shorter than normal Enews with a focus on the Covid-19 restrictions.

Thank you for your understanding and patience, the Enews will be back to normal next week.

My role at OGC has required me to spend a considerable amount of time observing and digesting Covid related news and Health updates over the last 16months, and while this latest outbreak is not ideal, the fact the almost all cases have been linked to existing cases within the cluster by the NSW Health contact tracing team should provide a level of comfort that other jurisdictions would not have in similar circumstances.

I have provided an update on the latest changes to NSW Health restrictions and requirements in the article below this one, however I would also like to provide members with some information on vaccination that has come to my attention recently.

As a manager of a frontline hospitality venue, I have been trying to ascertain what my options are for getting the Covid vaccination. To say this has been a little frustrating is an understatement. So to assist members who might be in a similarly frustrated position, I thought I would provide you the results of my investigation. The two links below give you access to book the Covid-19 vaccination at a number of the main vaccination hubs in Sydney (note, you will require your Medicare details to complete the booking);

Click here to book for the Homebush Vaccination centre

Click here to book for the Sonic Healthcare Vaccination centres – Blacktown, Campbelltown, Macquarie University

I hope this helps and I trust everyone remains in good spirit as we get through this next instalment of Covid together.

Regards,

Sam Howe
General Manager

Covid-19 Update

With the growth in Covid-19 cases in Sydney as a result of the Bondi cluster, NSW Health have been updating the compliance requirements for residents of Sydney each of the last 3 days.

With the Bondi cluster now numbering 65 cases including 22 new cases today, the four Local Government Areas (LGAs) at the centre of the outbreak have had stay at home orders announced. This is on top of the restrictions and mask requirements announced yesterday.

As such, the following restrictions are in place;

People who live or work in four Sydney local government areas — including the CBD — will go into lockdown.

The affected local government areas (LGAs) are:

  • Waverley
  • Woollahra
  • Randwick
  • City of Sydney

People who live in those areas, or have worked in those areas in the past fortnight, will be permitted to leave home only for four reasons until at least 11:59pm on Friday, July 2:

  • Shopping for food or other essential goods and services
  • Medical care or compassionate needs
  • Exercise outdoors in groups of 10 or fewer
  • Essential work, or education, where you cannot work or study from home

The lockdown will begin at 11:59pm today.

The restrictions for Greater Sydney, including the Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Shellharbour that came into effect yesterday, include:

  • Masks will be compulsory in all indoor non-residential settings, including workplaces and at organised outdoor events. This means everyone must wear a mask inside the Clubhouse and Pro Shop and only remove it when eating or drinking.
  • Drinking while standing at indoor venues will not be allowed.
  • The one person per four square metre rule will be re-introduced for all indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Dancing will not be allowed at indoor hospitality venues, however dancing is allowed at weddings for the bridal party only (no more than 20 people).
  • If you live or work in the City of Sydney, Waverley, Randwick, Canada Bay, Inner West, Bayside, and Woollahra local government areas, you cannot travel outside Metropolitan Sydney for non-essential travel.

These restrictions are designed to reduce the risk of further community transmission. To view the full list of new restrictions, please click on the link below:

GREATER SYDNEY RULES AND RESTRICTIONS

Management is continuing to review the Clubs CovidSafe plan against the current measures in place and the NSW Health requirements / Public Health Orders, and as such we trust that members will feel comfortable to continue enjoying the Clubs facilities.

We do however ask that all members and their guests please observe the following requirements;

  • Check in using the NSW Health QR codes located around the clubhouse every time you enter the venue.
  • Please observe thorough hygiene practices and make use of the hand sanitiser located around the Clubhouse and Pro Shop.
  • If you have been to a hotspot recently, please follow NSW Health guidelines for testing and isolation.
  • If you are experiencing even the mildest of cold symptoms, get a Covid test and isolate as per NSW Health instructions.
  • If eligible we strongly advice that all members get the Covid-19 vaccination.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation during this time.

From the Course

Rainfall for the Week: 5.0mm,  Rainfall for 2021: 643.0mm   Dam: 100%   Green Speed: 10 feet

This week the team have been focusing on course presentation and cleaning up debris that has fallen after heavy winds last weekend. Collars have been edged and whizzer trimming around tree bases, course furniture, etc has taken place. The vacuum and blower have been working each day trying to remove as much debris as possible. The mulched area on 11th has been topped up and levelled out with power rake to provide a nice and smooth look. Toping up all mulch areas will continue over next few weeks. We have also started on the 5th garden, and it will continue across all mulch gardens on the golf course.

A new area has been marked for mulching between the 9th tee and 8th fairway. Due to tree canopy cover, turf in this area struggles and therefore it will now become a mulched garden. This area has been sprayed with roundup to stop any potential grass/weeds growing through and the team will be spreading a thick coat of mulch. Timber boards will be installed along pathway to stop mulch washing out and down the pathway.

The remaining section of the 9th middle tee between the path and the tee will be turfed with Zoysia on Monday. Green mesh will be installed on top of this straight away to protect the new turf from traffic. Other areas to be turfed on Monday include; between 17th tee & 16th fairway, and area between 13th&17th fairways.

The 5th green will be taken out of play next Tuesday and Wednesday for a mini renovation, this will entail a light core and a medium topdressing of sand. This is to help the surface drain better and provide air to the root system. The small holes made during the mini core are filled with the new sand with minimal disruption to the putting surface. Hopefully we will have nice sunny weather to complete this task.

The new bunkers with Zoysia surrounds have been trimmed this week and the bigger weeds pulled out by hands. They have also been sprayed with herbicides to reduce growth of weeds. Some of the entry/exit points have significant amount of sand on them. The team have been working at improving these areas with sand having been moved around in the bunkers and pushed out from the edges.

The team have been working on our practice bay area. Nets have been rotated around and new rubber mats hung on the sides of each tee. This protective rubber mat is there to take the energy out of mishit balls and also to protect the fencing which is not designed to take repeated golf ball impact. Our volunteers have been cleaning up the practice tees with the pressure washer to give them a nicer, fresher look.

Have great weekend everyone!

The Course Team
