Digger’s Day – Record amount raised for Legacy
The Clubs annual Digger’s Day in support of Legacy Australia took place on Saturday 14th November with over 200 members taking part.
This was the Club first large shotgun start since Covid-19 and we would like to thank everyone that took part for their patience and understanding with the initiatives that were in place to ensure Covid-19 compliance.
The day was a great success and raised over $5,000 for Legacy Australia which is a record for this event. Thanks again to all of those that took part and joined in the bets, a portion of which went to the Charity.
This is one of the bigger days on the Clubs calender and requires considerable involvement from volunteers. Thank you to all of the volunteers for their assistance at registration, running the BBQ at Farmer Tunks Hut, collecting donation on the 19th hole and the myriad of general duties that made the day run smoothly.
From the Course
Rainfall for the Week: 1.0mm Rainfall for 2020: 1,132.0mm Dam: 90% Green Speed: 9.5 feet
The team has been able to really focus on course presentation this week without the distraction of having to perform too many “other tasks”, such as the bunkers on the 5th and concrete works which have been time consuming over recent weeks.
Our greens got through the very hot day on Monday without any damage and were well prepared for another hot day today. The appearance of the 8th green has improved all week with only some minor signs of the heat stress it experienced last week, still evident.
Growth on our tees is increasing with some warm overnight temperatures being recorded this week. These warm nights increase soil temperatures, and growth of grass species is influenced by the soil temperature that it is presented with. Recovery is happening but is also impaired with the high numbers of rounds that we continue to experience each day.
The hot day on Monday didn’t allow the course team to install the synthetic grass strip across the 9th middle tee pad, but we will attempt this install it this coming Monday if conditions are suitable. The team did manage to prepare the edge along the new path between the putter and chipper for turfing to be performed soon.
Volunteers were on course on Monday morning before the day really heated up, performing a bunker run before the competition, blowing fairways, trimming fairway sprinkler heads, installing extra screening at the back of the practice nets, clubhouse maintenance, vacuuming of debris and gurney work on the paths around farmer Tunks Hut. Thank you, gentlemen, for all your help once again this week, we really appreciate everything that you do each week.
Have a good weekend!
The Course Team.
Volkswagen Scramble – Tuesday 24th November 2020
OGC is pleased to announce that Denlo Volkswagen Parramatta has joined the Club to sponsor our hosting a Club qualifying event for the State and National Volkswagen Scramble.
Denlo Volkswagen will be offering all entrants and their immediate families discounts on the latest range of Volkswagen vehicles as well as providing the great prizes on offer for the Scramble.
The capacity for the event is 128 players and with over half the field already booked, we encourage members to click on the link below and book a team.
The event sees teams of 4 compete in a 4 person ambrose with winning teams qualifying for the regional final where they are joined by one of the Club’s PGA professionals for the chance to make the national final.
Last year, the Club winning team, playing with David Ecob in the regional final at Riverside Oaks, narrowly missed qualification for the national final by a single shot.
We are hoping this years winner will go one better.
This mixed event is great fun and is open to members and guests, with each team requiring at least one member to be eligible for qualification.
Entry for the event and the 8am shotgun start is via the PGA’s event link below;

Modified Local Rules – Flags can be removed from Saturday 21st November
Golf NSW have recently changed their advice on Modified Local Rules relating to Covid-19 and in particular Flagsticks and Rakes in bunker to;
“These Local Rule options are temporary and are related to COVID-19 concerns. They are optional and are to be utilised at the discretion of each Club.”
As such, the Match Committee have decided that as the decision on whether to remove the flagsticks is optional for golfers, that as of Saturday 21st November the Local Rule requiring flagsticks to be left in will be removed.
The Local Rule regarding no rakes and preferred lies in bunkers will remain in place as the raking of bunker if rakes are re-instated is not optional.

Bistro on Bettington – Rename and Win
The Board and Staff would like to re-brand the Clubs popular Bistro on Bettington dining event and are offering members the chance to submit suggestions for a new name for the chance to win a dinner for 4 people (including drinks) for the best name suggestion.
The event is fine dining and one of the Clubs most popular events and we would like suggestions that encompass the nature of the fine dining on offer and / or the great camaraderie the Club is famous for.
To enter simply fill in the form below. Entries close 31st December 2020.
Out of Bounds Register – 1st, 6th and 12th Holes
Members will notice that Out of Bounds Registers (as pictured) have been installed on the 1st, 6th and 12th tees.
Whenever a golf ball causes damage to property, the damage is covered under individual member insurance that is part of your membership and affiliation fees paid on your behalf to Golf Australia.
In order for the Club to claim this insurance, we need to be able to determine who struck the golf ball, hence these registers have been installed.
A claim against this insurance does not impact your personal insurances in any way.
Members are requested to please complete the form contained in each register anytime a ball is hit out of bounds on these holes or when a provisional ball needs to be played if there is any doubt as to whether a ball is out of bounds. Without this register, the cost of any damage is payable by the Club.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
