From the Course
Rainfall for the Week: 35.5mm, Rainfall for 2022: 1,735.0mm Dam: 100% Green Speed: 9 feet
The course team has continued transferring plugs from our nursery green out onto the in-play greens to help achieve a full cover across our greens. The areas that have been plugged or turfed over the last fortnight have also been lightly topdressed with green sand to obtain a smoother putting surface faster. The plugging and turfing has been completed now, and over the coming weeks we will strip back the nursery green and prepare this area for re-seeding.
Growth on our greens and fairways has improved slightly, but we really require some warmer, sunny weather to ignite the turf on these playing surfaces. We have some persistent root rot disease that continues to flare up in the older greens, as the profile in these greens remains wet, unable to dry out because of the continued wet weather and lack of warmer weather. Fungicide applications are being made to protect the plant as often as required, but further rain forecast for Thursday night and into Friday will only favour the development of diseases, as the high soil moisture levels will be prolonged further.
Work around the 13th pond wall continued this week, with small metal poles welded onto the steel beams that hold the concrete retaining slabs together. These small poles are now the hazard pegs, and the red line is the top of the concrete slabs which have been painted red. Small erosion holes around the top of the concrete wall have also been repaired.
Work has also commenced on the new location of the notice board at the 1st tee. As mentioned last week, we are moving this notice board closer to the tee, with the notice board, rubbish and soil bin, bucket posts and ball washer all located in the one area. All of this tee furniture will sit on a new concrete pad to finish this area off nicely.
Our volunteers were on course Monday morning, performing a bunker run before the competition, repainting OOB and hazard pegs, 6th creek tidied up, practice nets checked, gurney cleaning of the steps outside the men’s locker room, and clubhouse maintenance tasks. Thank you gentlemen for all your efforts once again this week!
Enjoy the weekend!

Ladies Charity Day – Monday 5th September 2022
The Oatlands Ladies were out in force again on Monday with a shotgun start and charity fundraising activities.
The weather was a little indifferent but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the 50+ ladies taking part in the two person team event.
The day raised $1,030 for the ladies annual charity contribution to Children’s Medical Research. Thank you to all those that donated prizes for the raffle and to all those that purchased tickets.
Cheese Platters Available from the Bar, Friday to Sunday
Following feedback from members regarding the food offering at the Club after the kitchen closes, the Club will be offering small Cheese Platters as pictured below from the Bar for all bar trading hours on Friday’s, Saturday’s and Sunday’s.
This service will commence on a trial basis with the view to making it a permanent fixture if well supported by members and guests.
The platters will include two types of cheese, quince paste, and crackers and will be available for $16 a serve. Perfect with a nice glass of red or white wine!
Membership Joining Fees to Increase 1st October 2022
Members are reminded that the Joining Fees for the various Club membership categories are set to increase on 1st October (as advised in June 2022). With our Full-Playing membership category again at capacity (500 members) and a waitlist in place, the Club currently has limited spaces remaining in the 6-Day and Lifestyle categories. This is a fantastic position for the Club to be in and provides a wonderful platform for the Club as we embark on the next chapter of the Club’s future and a new Clubhouse, with facilities that will be the envy of the Greater Sydney golf industry.
As such, the Membership Committee and Board have decided to raise the Joining Fees for Club membership, for each of the three playing categories, being:
- Full (including Intermediate 1,2 & 3)
- 6 Day
- Lifestyle
The increase will be 30% on the current Entrance Fees, and will come into effect on 1st October 2022.
Any friend or family member that joins the Club prior to 1st October, (or in the case of Full Membership, places their name on the waitlist prior to 1st October), will only be required to pay the current Joining Fee, as listed below.

2022 HP Evans Handicap Knockout Semi Final Draw
WS Targett Matchplay
The Final of the 2022 WS Targett Fourball Knockout was played on Sunday September 4th. The entire contest only had one match finish before the 17th hole and the Final round continued the trend of closely fought matches with Ben Mees and Michelle Kelly securing the win on the 17th hole 3&1 of Jill & Neil Vale.
Pennant Update
Mixed Pennant
The 2022 Mixed Pennant season resumed last Sunday after being postponed since February, due to many closed golf courses from the wet weather. Our team travelled to Kogarah and their course was surprisingly dry with the greens running well. It was a nice sunny afternoon, but they certainly turned the wind speed up for us. Oatlands came away with a fantastic away win 3-2. (Due to it being Father’s Day, we had a few people fill in for us. A big thanks to Vanessa Chivers, Harry Jepson, Rod Butcher, Jack Chang).
Results:
- Tony Monaghan & Debbie Jepson – Lost 2/1
- Rod Butcher & Amy Kim – Won 2/1
- Jack Chang & Annie Kang – Lost 2/1
- Lindsay Macinnes & Justa Kim – Won 3/2
- Pete Crawford & Stephanie Monaghan – Won 2 Up
- Harry Jepson & Vanessa Chivers – Lost 4/3
Next match:
Sunday 11th September, the team has their final match at 10:44am at Oatlands against Balgowlah and have a chance of winning their group and advancing to the finals, if they win and if Kogarah also wins their match at home.
