From the Course

Rainfall for the Week: 18.0mm,  Rainfall for 2022: 1,787.5mm Dam: 100%   Green Speed: 10 feet

The warmer weather continued this week, and the course is responding with some real definition between turf surfaces. The course received some rainfall over the last two nights/mornings with storm cells sweeping across Sydney, thankfully the course did not receive the same totals that surrounding suburbs did.

The bunkers on the 14th were turfed with Zoysia on Tuesday (see photos below). With the built up sand removed and the bunkers back to their original shape and size, the team did a final preparation and shaping of the soil levels, ensuring that water will move away from the bunker and heights blended into the turf outside the scope of works. The turf will require plenty of hand watering to help establish, so if you see the team out there watering after rainfall, we haven’t lost the plot just trying to keep the moisture in the soil profile. The next stage on the 14th will be the lining and drainage process followed by sand into the two bunkers.

Greens were dusted on Monday morning and rubbed in that afternoon as part of ongoing maintenance practices to improve surfaces affected by disease. Greens were cut and rolled on Wednesday morning before competition. These areas will continue improving with temperatures beginning to warm up and regular mowing and rolling practices.

Fairways are coming back great after renovations. They have again needed cutting twice this week and will only keep improving with more cutting and it is great to see some definition in some of the weaker fairways like the 7th. The renovations have helped with the recent rainfall and fairways have responded great after being topdressed and fertilised.

Rough has been cut and tree bases trimmed to improve uniformity out on the course with some areas of rough and tree lines growing more than others mainly due to temperature and light exposure.

Our volunteers were in on Monday performing a bunker run before the shotgun start, fairway divots were filled, and new logo discs were glued onto the renovated tee markers. Thank you as always gents for the great work you do and the assistance you give the course team.

Have a great long weekend!

The Course Team

Ladies Interclub with Muirfield GC – Monday 26th September

A field of 112 ladies from OGC and Muirfield GC took to the course on Monday 26th September for an Interclub Challenge between the neighboring Club’s followed by a light lunch.

Thankfully, the rain held off! It was a great day of golf and camaraderie between the two Club’s with home ground advantage proving the difference and the OGC ladies winning on the day!
