Rainfall for the Week: 63.5mm, Rainfall for 2021: 740.5mm Dam: 100% Green Speed: Renovations
A very different week on the course this week because of the NSW health restrictions, with no golf and course staff working reduced hours to manage costs. Some course staff have lost all their hours, others half of their hours and the rest only one day a week.
This period of closure is certainly giving all our playing surfaces a well-earned rest, as they have seen record rounds of golf for the best part of 18 months when the first lockdowns were imposed upon us in March last year. There is already a visible improvement in the appearance of our collars and tees, with new green shoots emerging from the stubble of the worn-out couch in these areas.
Our greens are recovering well from renovations last week and have only received one cut this week at 5mm. The plan is to leave the height of cut up at 5mm during the course closure period to reduce stress on the plant, and this will also encourage better root growth at the same time. We have finished our fairway renovations today with the last fairway top dressed and fertilised, and these surfaces are also recovering well. The course received 63.5mm of rain on Monday night and Tuesday, which was very timely indeed.
This amount of rain did test our bunkers and it was pleasing to see on Wednesday morning that all the bunkers that we had recently excavated out and installed new sand in the low areas of these bunkers, had all drained well without any damage.
The reduced team has laid new couch turf around the 11th, 17th and 18th greens, while also cutting out new areas on collars on the 3rd, 6th, 8th and 9th greens in preparation for new turf to be laid next week. Our bunker rejuvenation program has started back up again this week, with bunkers on the 8th, 10th and 11th shelled out by our contractor, and bunkers on the 2nd, 6th, 9th and 16th to be shelled out next week. The team then starts preparations for laying new Zoysia turf around all the above bunker areas hoping to establish this new turf before the heat of summer arrives.
Have great weekend everyone!
The Course Team.
Members Only Closed Facebook Group
The Club has recently setup a closed members Facebook group for OGC members. The group has been active for one week and already has 115 members that have joined.
This social media platform will allow members to engage with each and with the Club in addition to the traditional communication channels already in place. We also have some exciting initiatives that will be launched through this platform in the coming weeks, such as, live feed interactive Rules sessions, Chef Masterclass video’s, Member Only Professional Tips, and a host of other member only group activities that can take place in a Covid compliant fashion from the safety of your own home.
At the time of writing the newly setup group has 2 members being the Club GM and Captain, so don’t be concerned if you join and don’t see too many other members, the group will build quite quickly.
To join the Members Only Facebook Group please click on the link below and the click on the “JOIN GROUP” button. You will be asked a few questions to vary you are a member and then approved by the group administrator shortly thereafter.
